Carnegie Council Poster Contest Winners, 2006

Dec 6, 2006

The Carnegie Council is delighted to announce the results of the 2006 Poster Design Competition. We deliberated long and hard to choose the winners, as we received over 1,000 entries, including many from overseas, and all were of high quality.

The task we gave the competitors was a difficult one: to create striking images that successfully convey our core themes, using no text and with no bias towards any particular culture or faith.

This year's winners are:

  • Ist place, Ethics, War, and Peace: Stanley Desouza, Toronto, Canada ($500 prize)Stanley Desouza is a freelance graphic designer who studied at George Brown College, Toronto.
  • Ist place, Global Social Justice: Krzysztof J. Kokowicz, Lublin, Poland ($500 prize) Krzysztof Kokowicz is a painter, printmaker, and designer who currently works at the State museum in Lublin.
  • 2nd place, Global Social Justice: Muggi Tanaka, New York City ($300 prize)Muggi Tanaka is a senior graphic design student at Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY.

The winning images will be used for Carnegie Council posters, postcards, and other materials.

Perhaps the most challenging theme is Religion in Politics, and there is no winner in that category this year. Instead, we have chosen an image created by our own in-house graphic designer, Dennis Doyle.

Congratulations to the winners! We wish to thank all the art students, illustrators, and graphic designers who took part in this competition. Everyone at the Council is very grateful for your time and effort.

Many thanks also to the various Arts Schools, Colleges, and Universities that used this contest as one of their student assignments.
